Marisol Rammoser

Methodology

User-Centered Design (UCD)

Goals

  • Identify inconsistencies in the app's design and interactions.

  • Determine if there are confusions in the labeling and the iconography of the app.

  • Identify errors in navigation as well as in the steps to complete a task.

Overview

People like to be told stories. One very popular modality is social media stories.

Unfold is an application for creating stories for social media. It offers templates, stickers and image and text editing tools.

The app is stylish and simple, but at times confusing to use. It is especially popular among centennials.

Together with other designers we evaluated the app as experts with a cognitive walkthrough. Then I conducted individually a more detailed user test, to examine people's experience using the app and proposed improvements.

Process

The evaluation of a product can sometimes be cheap and quick or it can require more resources, such as time, money, tools and people. It all depends on the objectives of the study.

The following are the stages of the evaluation.

Results

A report has been prepared with the results of the test. In order to comply with my non-disclosure agreement, I will not present the report.

The following is a visual summary of the test results.

Conclusions

Design brief. The brief was the detailed reports of the research and user experience definition stages. This helped to understand the project in depth. As a designer it is important to understand that the process is a sequence of stages, not just random steps.

Organization and conventions. In the design system it is essential to organize and use conventions, this way we ensure congruence in the final design and also a system that is easy to scale and use by other people.

The final result was a working prototype of a task, for different devices. The prototype has been tested with users and small necessary adjustments have been made. A UI kit was developed ready to create new wireframes of new tasks, an ecosystem has been created ready to be used and scaled.
